Starting My 7-Day Blogging Challenge

Many bloggers, like me, struggle to write consistently. We can’t deny that there are many factors that hinder us from attaining our blogging goals. Personally, I have tried to set up a schedule before to at least publish after three days. I thought this goal was attainable and practical – considering I have work and other things to do other than blogging.

7-Day Blogging challenge

Despite that measurable goal that I set for myself, I still found it difficult to stay motivated and follow through with my plans. I continued to postpone writing and it kept going on like that. So I’m a bit behind when it comes to blogging. Now, when I visit my WordPress blog, I can’t help but cry at the unfinished drafts I made that are waiting to be completed.

I reflected a lot on what would be the best possible solution to this problem that I’m facing, so I decided that starting a blogging challenge would hopefully revive my sleeping spirit and push me to write more.

Before I tell more about this challenge, I want to tell you what I hope to gain from it.

Things I Hope to Accomplish

Starting a challenge without an end goal is like driving a car without direction. So, for me, these are some of the things I hope to accomplish by the end of this blogging challenge.

1. Improve my writing skills

Writing is something that I really like doing but lack enough practice. I want to take upon this challenge in hopes that I will improve my writing skills even just a tid-bit.

2. Develop vocabulary

I have a really long way when it comes to using new vocabulary I wrote down in my notebook. Hopefully, I could make use of them as much as possible so I can improve my writing.

3. Express myself more

I’ve always found it so easy to express myself in my journals and diaries because when I write my thoughts there, it’s just between me and the blank paper. I didn’t have to think a lot about using proper grammar or correct spelling or second guess what I should write. I was just free to jot down whatever I liked.

It’s different when you’re writing for an online audience, there are certain things you have to be cautious about. And that kind of limits you on what you can say to people online.

Some people have been able to get past this fear of online expression. I think I haven’t and I hope to overcome that fear.

4. Enjoy and have fun

A challenge that feels like a chore is quite stressful. Can you imagine yourself doing something that you do not enjoy? So, one thing I would really love to accomplish during and by the end of this challenge is to enjoy and have fun writing.

Blogging Challenge Rules

These are some of the rules I set for my 7 day blogging challenge:

  1. Each day I will write 500 – 1000 words
  2. I can write whatever I want
  3. At the end of the days, I’ll have written 3,500 words – 7000 words.

Hi Yuri, I hope you’re well.
I always have the urge to cry whenever I see my drafts. I have a gazillion posts that I needed to finish (but too lazy or unmotivated to do so). Hahaha! Blogging prompts and challenges are a great way to get the creative juices flowing. Your readers will be intrigued by what you are saying and will be keen to find out more.

      Thanks Polly

  2. Girl you can do this!!!! Don’t push too much pressure on yourself because blogging is supposed to be fun. I usually blog during weekends and have separate days for brain dump writing and then editing. Maybe that could help you out as well haha. Good Luck!!

    1. Yuri says:

Thanks for that. What’s brain dump writing? Is it similar to free writing?

Blogging is tedious work that requires dedication. You have to be patient, focus, and goal-oriented. Welcome to the world of blogging! I’m so excited about your journey.

      Thank you, Dang 🙂

  4. Writing is fun and good challenge to yourself. It also helps to improve your vocabulary. It also exercises your mind and pushes you out of your comfort zone.

    1. Yuri says:

      I completely agree, Kurt.

  5. I think I need a 7-Day blogging challenge of some sorts, myself. I find it challenging to blog nowadays and between my blog and my writing jobs, my brain just can’t function right anymore, haha!

We both learned journalism! I honestly still have the journalist drive in me that keeps me going in blogging. Thank you for the motivation! We love playing around with words, don’t we? 🙂

    1. Yuri says:

Even though I’ve been in the blogging industry for quite a while, I know I still need to improve my writing skills and on how to properly express my thoughts to my readers. This is a wonderful list of challenges to achieve. Ugh, I lowkey miss writing challenges!

I challenged myself to write every day but honestly, I can’t do it due to my busy schedule every day. I usually put so much time into writing because I always wanted my blog not just good but with the right information for my readers, that’s why I do researches too.

    1. Yuri says:

That’s really wonderful. I’m happy to hear that you put a lot of effort into making sure your readers receive a well-researched article. For me, most of my articles here require little research but I still find it difficult to stay consistent. But I’m trying. LOL

  9. Hello Yuri! Writing seamlessly really takes effort and timing. Sometimes there are those days when you want to start writing but you don’t have the words. Felt that a lot of times so I also do the monthly life update just so I can keep the ball rolling. It’s a challenge but we have more time this pandemic, so no excuses! I hope you get the motivation that you need 🙂 by the way, do you have plans of publishing them daily or just practice writing for yourself?

    1. Yuri says:

      Hi Danica,

Thanks for the encouragement. I agree writing really takes a lot of effort. Sometimes, I really don’t know what to write but doing this challenge has made me step out of my comfort zone. For this challenge, I publish an article a day for 7 days in a row. I was supposed to finish the challenge two days ago, but my site got some technical issues and was offline for almost 2-3 days. Now I’m back, and I’ll finish it tomorrow.

  10. I love challenges! Given my schedule though, I can’t commit to writing a certain number of words a day, haha! The challenge for me now is to write at least twice a week, then if I get more downtime at work, I’ll up that goal! Cheers to you and good luck on this quest! (My most current posts are also just me trying to get a hold of my thoughts and take control of my blog again, haha.)

    1. Yuri says:

      Hi Veeyah,

Thank you. I’m about to finish the challenge and I think I had a great time. I just feel proud that I managed to do something that I never thought I would. Well, it has given me some kind of boost. LOL

Don’t worry about committing to writing. If you get time to write, then write. I’m happy that you set up a schedule of publishing at least twice a week. That means a lot. HEHE

Blogging is a great way to improve our vocabulary and learn more of things that surrounds us. This is a good challenge for everyone.

    1. Yuri says:

I think so too, Blair. Thanks so much

  12. Sounds like fun, when you are not thinking hard about that amount of content. I can’t imagine that commitment 😅. But I would definitely like to try.

    1. Yuri says:

Nice to hear that you’re considering this challenge. 🙂 I’ll send you the link of my group through your contact page. TY.
