Why Your Small Business Needs an SEO Friendly Web Design

For small business owners, a website gives visibility on the internet that enables you to stay at par with your competitors. Even better, if it is optimized for SEO (Search engine optimization), you can easily reach your target audience who may eventually become you’re paying customers.

There are almost 4.66 billion active people on the internet as of October 2020. 3.5 billion of whom are mobile users. These stats show how important online presence is for not just any business but also those just starting out. But if your small business does not have a website, you miss out on a lot of potential revenue.

Many people assume that SEO is all about optimizing content for keywords. However, they don’t realize that SEO and web design also seamlessly work together to ensure a website that not only shows content but also satisfies a customer’s experience. A properly designed website ensures that the traffic you’ve been growing for months does not go to waste.

What is an SEO Friendly Web Design?

An SEO friendly web design is a way of designing and developing web pages that allow Google and other search engines to crawl and index it into their database. Once the pages are indexed, only then can they serve the most relevant pages to their users based on the queries they search for.

SEO web design focuses on the following:

  1. User-friendliness
  2. URL structure
  3. Navigation
  4. Site maps
  5. Responsive layout
  6. Page speed
  7. Clean backend coding
  8. Readability
  9. Responsive Images
  10. A strong but limited color palette
  11. Valuable call to action
  12. SEO-boosting elements

Now, let’s discuss why your small business needs to consider an SEO friendly web design during the design and development process of your website.

1.    It Improves Brand Reputation

Most digital marketing services implement web design and development strategies because a clear and responsive web design is a number one factor in deciding the credibility of a business.

There are a number of strategies businesses execute to build a positive brand reputation but most of these strategies are based on web design in some way.

When you consider some SEO best practices such as page speed, user-friendliness, URL structure, and a responsive layout, you will find that most of these practices influence how users think about your brand.

For instance, if users visit your site and find an old and outdated web design with hard-to-read content, they’re more likely to leave a bad review.

2.    Using an Optimized Web Design Increases Conversions

As a small business, your website is the most important marketing asset. If your website is not bringing conversions, then it’s time to find out why. Perhaps you don’t have a mobile-friendly website or the web design is ugly. In fact, 48.71% of the web traffic comes from mobile phones. This is nearly half of the global search engine traffic.

You could be having a product or service that you’re trying to promote but because your web design is not optimized, you won’t get buying customers. A poor web design will give your business the impression that it’s not making any effort.

For your small business to get conversions, you need to incorporate elements such as an excellent call to action (CTA), simple user navigation, and an appealing theme.

3.    It Attracts Valuable Traffic

There is over 3.5 billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwide. Although paid marketing tactics can help send traffic to your website, once you stop investing your hard-earned money and effort in them, the traffic fades to nothing. Therefore, organic search has some staying power so that you can still continue to benefit from it.

An SEO friendly web design, however, can help you attract visitors who matter to your small business because you have incorporated content and design that specifically appeals to your target audience.

By implementing designing processes such as smooth navigation, responsiveness, and easy-to-read design, you attract paying customers who will share your brand with others.

4.    It Improves Customer Experience

Imagine visiting a website with an old and outdated design, poor choice of fonts and color, and seemingly disorganized navigation. Having clear navigation helps customers move from one site to another so that they can find the information or product they want.

Busy and impatient customers have no time to work through a disorganized navigation, they will abandon the carts and look elsewhere. We definitely want to avoid that. A good SEO web design offers a seamless web design for customers while guiding them through the content, features, and services.

Now It’s Your Turn

Small businesses need to redirect their focus on a friendly web design if they want to attract visitors who will leave a positive and lasting impression of their brand. We hope you found this information insightful. Leave a comment and also feel free to share with friends if you liked it.

  9. in the age of social media, is having a website still relevant or it depends on the business, be it big or small that you have?

    1. Yuri says:

Whether your business is big or small, I think you should create a website if you can afford to handle the expenses in managing it. A self-hosted website is your own – you can do whatever you want with it. Social media networks are owned by companies and not you, so you can’t do whatever you want with them. If one social network decides to shut down, your business goes along with it. That’s why I think having something of your own is an advantage.

  10. I agree will all these especially improving customersexperience. I had a hard time indexing my blog but was able to do it.
